It was a "cold" night in Ethiopia! But waking up with the sound of happy children who are laughing and singing in their beds warms the heart!
Here in Ethiopia, people use eachother as their heating mechanism! The warmth of a smile, a hug, a giggling child. A child who can smile again after having gone through so much heartache, a child trying to sit as close as possible to you because he loves you. I think this is "social" warmth .........Maybe an alternative for global warming??

Abraham's Oasis?

We worked for 2 years as the Oasis Foundation, an international Non-Governmental organisation but this year the Ethiopian law has changed and all organistations are now registered as charities. We felt that the time was right to change from international to national as we work with and for the people of Ethiopia, so they should have a say in what we do. We now have an Ethiopian board and are proud of our new status: an Ethiopian Resident Charity.
At the same time we decided that with the status change we also should change the name. After some deliberations we came up with the name Abraham's Oasis. We are locally known as Oasis already and it would not be wise to make a drastic change in name. When we get children in our children's village without a father's name we give them the name Abraham. God promised a big nation to Abraham and in that respect we are all his children. So the majority of our 49 children go by the  father's name of Abraham.
We felt it would be very special to have a legacy for the children and hopefully we will have some of our children on the board in the future!
